At Timberlake we believe strongly in the two ordinances that our Lord instituted for the church, baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  Baptism is a beautiful testimony of a believer showing his faith in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and also his union with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection.  We believe that baptism is the complete immersion of the believer in water, and that baptism is a prerequisite to church membership.

Here are several passages of Scripture dealing with baptism and our union with Christ, which baptism pictures:

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
-Matthew 28:19-20

Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren, what shall we do?" Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
-Acts 2:37-38

But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike.
-Acts 8:12

What shall we say then?  Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?  May it never be!  How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?  Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.  For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin; for he who has died is freed from sin.
-Romans 6:1-7
